Woman killed in Picketts Junction crash


A 33-year-old Fair Oaks woman was killed after she drove through Picketts Junction on Monday and ran into a boulder on the other side.

The woman was driving a 2019 Hyundai Elantra southbound on Highway 89 approaching the Junction at around 4:25 a.m.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the driver appeared to have failed to navigate the roadway and continued straight across toward Burnside Lake.

A 9-year-old girl and a 7-year-old boy in the vehicle received moderate and major injuries in the collision.

They were helicoptered to Renown Regional Medical Center.

The California Highway Patrol is investigating the collision.

• The driver of a white Jeep Cherokee that crashed along East Valley Road south of Amber on Election Day received severe injuries.

The collision occurred at 12:35 p.m. as the snow was coming down, according to the Nevada Highway Patrol.

The Jeep ended up on its side in a driveway, landing on a power pedestal.

The collision knocked out power to the neighborhood for the better part of six hours, according to Nevada Energy.

• Slick conditions may have contributed to two crashes on Kingsbury Grade’s Doolittle Curve at 12:10 and 4:52 p.m. Sunday.
