Genoa, Nev. — I'm following up on a fatal motorcycle collision at Bently Parkway and Orchard Road that occurred around 8:30 p.m. Tuesday.

New Douglas County Public Library Director Tim DeGhelder is due to start on June 13. The Library Board of Trustees decided to wait until he’s actually here and can help before hosting a meet and greet.

Douglas County Mosquito Abatement will be fogging up around Stephanie and Johnson Lane 9 p.m. today and Thursday in an effort to get a jump on the bloodsuckers.

The Douglas County Vacation Home Rental Advisory Board is meeting in Zephyr Cove 1 p.m. today, with three Tier 3 rental applications on the agenda. You can watch the meeting online at douglascountynv.gov and click on You Tube. The meeting is at the Tahoe Douglas Fire Protection Office at 193 Elks Point Road.

The B-29 Superfortress Doc will be holding tours this afternoon at Minden-Tahoe Airport. If you’re going make sure to bring water and slather on that sunscreen, because it’s going to be pretty warm.

As always, if you think it’s too hot today, wait a bit, because the weather is going to change. The good news is that the possibility of thunderstorms is out of the picture, but it’s going to be windy and cool off considerably on Thursday and through Memorial Day weekend.

The wind is expected to pick up around 2 p.m. today at 15 mph with 20 mph gusts accelerating to 30 mph by 5 p.m. It’s real dry out so be careful with sparks or open flames, because as we’ve seen, it doesn’t take much to start a fire.

If the mercury actually hits 89 degrees today, it may well be the hottest day of 2022, so far. It will be short of the record 93 degrees set in 1936, but that won’t make it seem any cooler.

I’m out of the office today in an effort to get some downtime before the post Memorial Day crush. I’ll still check in from time to time as the day wears on, and might even turn up at some stuff.
