Genoa, Nev. — The first Esmeralda Avenue Farmers Market was a big hit on Tuesday night. The Sierra Chef Farmers Market opens 8 a.m. today at Heritage Park in Gardnerville. Both markets are expected to continue through the summer.


There will be some firefighting helicopter training around Indian Creek Reservoir and the Alpine County Airport this morning as the Nevada National Guard conducts its annual training in preparation for fire season.


Monday’s fire at the Judicial & Law Enforcement Center was started by construction workers using a saw to cut culvert pipe. The sparks set the grass on fire, according to East Fork Fire Chief Tod Carlini. If your work generates sparks, have a means to extinguish any flames handy.


Nevada Wildlife Commissioners were told that Nevada’s drought conditions are the worst in more than 1,200 years, which will affect big game. Commissioners met May 5-6 in Washoe County.


The warm spell is supposed to peak today at 87 degrees with the wind picking up to 5-10 mph out of the north this afternoon. Thursday will see a slight cooling before the bottom is forecast to drop out on Friday, when it drops into the 60s.
