Genoa, Nev. — Western Nevada is sandwiched between a high wind warning to the north and a red flag warning to the south. The record warmest low temperature for May 6 is 51 degrees set in 2017 and it was 46 degrees at the airport, so that record is likely safe. There is definitely some energy in the atmosphere.


A power outage hit downtown Genoa 5:37 p.m. Thursday, according to NVEnergy.com. Estimates were power was restored to the 49 customers in the town at 7:30 p.m.


Congratulations to former Douglas Undersheriff Paul Howell who was appointed to the Advisory Board to Manage Wildlife on Thursday. As always seems the case, it was a tough choice, commissioners said.


County commissioners upheld planning commissioners’ denial Thursday of a bed and breakfast near the base of Kingsbury in Carson Valley.


Main Street Gardnerville may get a break from the wind to sweep the town 9 a.m. to 11:50 a.m. Saturday. Bring gloves and a broom down to Gardnerville Station.


Saturday is the Kentucky Derby and the folks at Circle S Western Market are hosting a party to benefit Healing Arenas at their store in downtown Gardnerville. Fitzpatrick Performance Horses’ Meet an Arabian Horse Day event 11 a.m.- 1 p.m. Saturday at Cutter Ridge Ranch, 1350 State Route 88, Minden.


A wind advisory remains in effect until 5 a.m. Saturday with southwest winds 15-25 mph, gusting up to 40 mph at times. Expect a high of 76 degrees, and low tonight in the 40s.
