Sometimes it pays to look up

Anyone in our beloved Valley who has looked up into the heavens on a chilly, crisp sunny morning and seen the colorful, gigantic balloons floating gracefully above, realizes we have something special. We live in a wonderful and free society — America.

In this small corner of the world on Saturday morning in Minden’s developing La Costa neighborhood, to look up and see such beauty reminds us of how truly lucky we are. Free to walk. Free to gaze at the clear skies. Free to greet our neighbors without fear. Free to take our pets along as we stroll the safe sidewalks.

This past Saturday witnessed several very large and multicolored balloons above as doggy was going for his morning excursion down Bella Casa Avenue towards the new houses going up across from the community park between La Cita Way and Monte Vista Avenue. Doggy got very excited and wagged his tail profusely as one of the colorful floating ships - this lighter-than atmosphere spectacular hot air balloon with its beautiful gondola and fiery reddish-orange flame decorating the early skies – landed gently a stone’s throw away. Maybe these sky-people decided to come down and check-out the new development …maybe they wanted to buy that gorgeous house that is nearly finished in the neighborhood. Who knows? So many good people are moving to our area and what a more exciting vista of the Minden area than to explore it from above.

Another one of these buoyant creatures started descending and came to a stop on Peralta Way – a perfect landing. Neighbors had come out and watched with delighted excitement. It’s not everyday something so dazzling lands in one’s backyard. Douglas County is blessed with many delightful experiences, and it is filled with good people who reach out and help one another. We should never take this for granted.
