The July 19, 2022, R-C Morning Report

These three tomato plants were 2 inches tall when I bought them on a whim on June 18. While we might be suffering in the heat, these guys love it.

Genoa, Nev., — Congratulations to Shoe Tree Brewery, which brought home a half dozen medals from theU.S. Open Beer Championship held in Oxford, Ohio. Those honors include a second overall in the grand national championship, three gold and a silver medal.

Criminal trials scheduled over the next few weeks have been delayed or vacated, including the Aug. 1 trial of four men accused in a jail cell beating. There’s a change of plea scheduled this morning in district court that will clear another trial off the calendar for a man who allegedly aided in burglarizing the Jacks Valley Fire Station.

A July 14 preliminary hearing in East Fork Justice Court for the man accused of DUI in the April 23 wrong-way collision that killed Fallon Montanucci was delayed until July 28 and may be delayed again. While evidence is presented at a preliminary hearing, the standard to be bound over to district court on charges is pretty low.

It's just a little hazy in Carson Valley this morning as firefighters get the upper hand on the Yosemite fire, which is 58 percent contained. The Washburn Fire has been burning since July 7 when smoke sent air quality into the unhealthy range at times. It was nothing like this time last year, when the whole world turned orange from the Tamarack Fire.

Until yesterday, I was oblivious to the fact there is a Genoa, Ohio, which might help explain why I keep getting the Ravenna, Ohio, R-C's mail. If you are one of my readers in the Buckeye State, you're welcome, but this is likely not the publication you're looking for.

We might see some weather today as thunderstorm chances return to Western Nevada, though it’s more likely further east and south into Mono and Mineral counties. Then we’re back to sunny skies through the weekend.

Otherwise expect mostly sunny skies and a high temperature of 91 degrees, with the wind out of the west at 10-15 mph, gusting to 25 mph.
