A professional boxer hailing from Carson City, Diego Elizondo, is battling for his life at Renown Hospital in Reno following a rollover car crash in Minden Feb. 8.
The 23-year-old was ejected from his vehicle and was required to have emergency brain surgery, following the crash.
A GoFundMe account that was created last week has raised over $16,000 for Elizondo, who remains in a coma following the accident.
Elizondo was headed up the Kingsbury Grade a the time of the accident.
The couple have a 3-year-old daughter at home as well.
The family said doctors estimate his recovery will be measured in weeks and months.

As of Monday afternoon, Elizondo was stable, but still remained in a coma.
Terry Kilfian, who used to box in Carson City, says he's known Elizondo since he was a kid boxing in the youth and amateur ranks.
"I've known Diego and his family for 20 years," said Kilfian. "He had another pro boxing fight lined up next month. ... I've told Diego since he was fighting in the amateurs, he was going to be a world champion one day."
Four months ago, Elizondo knocked off the lightweight champion from New Mexico in a 10-round decision.
Kilfian said the family was putting together a prayer chain this Sunday at 1 p.m. at Mills Park.
Both Carson City Boxing Club and Tazmanian Boxing Club will be helping to put together the event.
“He is currently in not fully alert, he has intermittent periods of purposeful movement,” read the statement on the GoFundMe page. “We all know how mentally strong Diego is and I know he is working so hard to wake up and get back to us soon. Most importantly, I am asking everyone to take some time out of their day, everyday, and pray for his complete recovery. … I am asking for any donations to help with medical expenses and rehab expenses once he wakes up, as well as personal expenses so he won’t have to worry about expenses during his recovery.”
