Genoa, Nev. — What may be the first synagogue in Douglas County history goes before the Planning Commission meeting 1 p.m. today. Rabbi Mordey Richler is seeking a special use permit for a location at 255 Kingsbury Grade in Stateline. Planning commissioners meet at the Douglas County Courthouse, 1616 Eighth St., Minden. Just because it hasn’t rained for more than a month, doesn’t mean that there aren’t still icy spots on the roads. I suspect that might have contributed to the wreck that closed Kingsbury on Monday, though there might have been some operator error in there, too.

Long-time resident and Eastern Alpine Fire volunteer Michael Gard, 79, succumbed to the coronavirus, Alpine County Public Health Officer Dr. Richard Johnson reported with the permission of the family. He was vaccinated and wore a mask but was around others who might not have done those things, Johnson said.

Douglas is at an average of 24 new daily confirmed cases of the coronavirus with 6,949 confirmed cases since the contagion began. There are six confirmed and suspected hospitalizations with one person in intensive care. The county has seen 82 deaths since August 2020.

Expect sunny skies and a high temperature near 60 degrees today. The wind will be out of the southeast at 5 mph calming this afternoon.
