Genoa, Nev. — The Share Your Christmas Drive-through Food Drive is underway at the Carson Valley inn in Minden this morning. Residents may drop off food and cash donations through 6 p.m. tonight. Douglas traditionally represents for the Carson Valley Community Food Closet.

There was no structural damage to the Gardnerville VA Clinic in a collision around 2:20 p.m. Thursday. A black SUV struck the corner of the building. The driver may have suffered a medical issue and was taken to Carson Valley Medical Center.

Alpine County is reporting a third of the students at Diamond Valley Elementary School were sick on Thursday. Respiratory syncytial virus has been raging through the region. If you’re sick, please stay home.

Four-wheel drive with snow tires are being required over Kingsbury and Spooner this morning if you don’t want to chain up. The same is true of Interstate 80, Highway 50 and Highway 88 over the mountains. CalTrans announced Thursday that Monitor Pass is closed for the season. The pass has been closed since Nov. 28, so no real surprise, there.

There hasn’t been much moisture from this first blast of weather with maybe .1 inches in the Carson Range. Top wind gust was 45 mph at the top of Mott Canyon with 40 mph on 88 just south of Mottsville right at midnight.

Today will be relatively mild with partly sunny skies and a high near 43 degrees. The wind will be out of the south at 5-10 mph. I would suggest stocking up for the weekend’s storm today.
