Genoa, Nev. — Applications for Douglas County’s many volunteer boards are due 5 p.m. Friday. Someone at Tuesday’s Airport open house said the link is difficult to work with. I was able to bring up the application at board applications but if you’re having trouble, call 775-782-9821 or email AdvisoryBoards@douglasnv.us

Two positions will be open on the Genoa Town Board at the beginning of 2023 as R. “Alex” Alexander and Brendan Riley’s terms expire. Brian Crowe was the only Genoan to seek another term. If you live in town and are interested, email genoamanager@douglasnv.us for more information.

Genoa’s not the only elected board in the county facing a shortage of candidates. There are four openings on the Douglas County Mosquito Abatement District, which covers Carson Valley. Most of the other openings are the Lake Tahoe improvement districts. Contact the district for more information.

I got word the crossword answers were blank in Wednesday’s edition. We’ll squeeze the answers into Saturday’s paper, so you’ll have to wait a bit to find out how you did.

A weak storm will bring gusty winds and the possibility of some flurries to Carson Valley tonight, according to a statement issued by the National Weather Service. This will be the opener for the main act this weekend if the forecast holds.

The forecast calls for mostly cloudy skies today with a high of 42 degrees and a south wind at 5-10 mph. There might be some scattered snow showers after 7 p.m. but there will be some wind.
