The Douglas County 4-H Poultry Club held their First Annual Great Poultry Peep Egg Drop on Aug. 3 at Fuji Park.

“Club Leaders Mark and Keriann Ortiz continually come up with ways to excite, inspire, and engage their Poultry Peeps Club of Douglas County 4-H, and this night was, well, EGGceptional,” said Douglas County 4-H Youth Development Coordinator Patrick Flynn.

The 10 young people who participated were challenged to engineer a way to drop an egg from 30 feet and land intact.

The youth created all types of configurations using all types of materials: tape, string, straws, foam, cans, grass, the list goes on.

All designs were successful at first and then the challenge got harder, and harder until only one egg, named Amelia EGGhart by the designer Kadence Ortiz, survived to fly another day, Flynn said. For more information, call (775) 782-9960
