The fourth annual Burgers for Badges fundraiser to support the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office raised $15,000. The money was presented to Sheriff Dan Coverley and will go toward the department’s operations and specialty programs.

The event held on Sept. 11 at Minden Park was organized by RE/MAX Realty Affiliates and Sierra Pacific Mortgage.

“We had a lot of people come out and enjoy that afternoon,” Coverley said. “The support provided by the community is always overwhelming and appreciated. Thank you to everyone who generously donated and who had a hand in making this event happen — CoCoMoes who came in to cater at the last second, The Lost Reverends for live music, Battle Born Cornhole, and members of our Search and Rescue. This was a perfect afternoon and it’s the sort of thing we enjoy getting the opportunity to do.”

The event was designed to foster connection between the community and law enforcement.

“Burgers for Badges kept everyone smiling all afternoon,” organizers said.

Douglas County Sheriff’s Office Deputies, Sheriff’s Mounted Posse, Search and Rescue, Citizen’s Patrol, and the K-9 Unit were among the programs who represented the Sheriff’s Office at the event.
