Genoa, Nev. — A drive-through flu vaccination clinic is 10 a.m. to noon today at the Topaz Ranch Estates Community Center. A second clinic is 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday at James Lee Park in Indian Hills on Wednesday. Bring your insurance card.

Two structures in Gardnerville that have been vacant for years could be subject to a code enforcement complaint. The buildings are on the agenda for the town board which meets 4:30 p.m. today. The building located at Highway 395 and Eddy Street has been empty since Old Town Antiques closed down in 2007. Eddy Street Book Exchange moved to Minden in 2010.

According to the county, the former antique store was constructed in 1905. I’ve got references to a Sinclair Building at Main and Eddy streets dating back to 1903, but that might be on the other side of the highway. The former bookstore was built in 1930. Both are owned by Peripheral Storage in Milpitas, Calif.

Minden Gardnerville Sanitation District trustees are scheduled to discuss annexing 34.62 acres of Park Ranch Holdings land located at 1300 Buckeye Road. One of the requirements for the approval of a slaughterhouse at that location was a sewer connection. The MGSD board meets 6 p.m. today at the plant, 1790 Highway 395 in Minden.

There’s not much new on either the Caldor or Dixie fires. The KNP Complex burning near Sequoia and Kings Canyon national parks is 11 percent contained at 76,768 acres. The fire is responsible for most of the smoke we’re getting in the Valley now.

We might see snow in the Sierra by Thursday as a cooler weather pattern arrives in Western Nevada. Forecasters said Tuesday that we might also see some actual rain in the Valley. Expect a freeze early Friday morning.

Today expect widespread haze and smoke before 11 a.m. The wind will shift from the southeast to the west at 5-15 mph gusting to 25 mph, which I hope will push the smoke into the desert, maybe.
