The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office recently initiated an investigation related to the theft of heating and air-conditioning infrastructure and recyclable materials from the rooftops of commercial buildings located in Douglas County.

The perpetrators commit these thefts by gaining access to the roof of large commercial buildings likely using exterior fire suppression ladders and/or ropes. Once on the roof the perpetrators removed recyclable metals from rooftop infrastructures including heating and air-conditioning units. These crimes may not be immediately identified by commercial property tenants or owners depending on what recyclable materials have been removed by the perpetrators of these thefts. until well into the summer months.
