The Douglas County Democratic Party announced the recent re-opening of its office for in-person meetings, and regularly scheduled office hours.

It has been more than a year since the office closed due to health and safety concerns related to the coronavirus pandemic. During this time, monthly meetings continued to be held virtually.

“The grand eeopening event provided a long awaited opportunity for old and new friends to gather, socialize, and plan for the future,” party officials said.

Nevada State Party Chairwoman Judith Whitmer shared her vision for the state party at the opening.

She pledged to provide more resources to rural communities, which play a vital role in the success of the Democratic Party.

Former Executive Committee members John Novak, Jan Walls, and Katherine Winans were recognized for their service, and thanked for their efforts. Kimi Cole was awarded with the honorary title of Chair Emeritus in recognition of “Excellence and Service with Distinction,” in honor of her work last year.

The award was presented by recently elected Chairwoman Donna Weidner, with assistance by Dotty Dennis and Gim Hollister, the organizations’ only other Emeritus members.

Upcoming monthly meetings will focus on local businesses and rural issues.

A social meet and greet is planned at Lake Tahoe on Wednesday at Casey’s Grill to reach out to the Tahoe community. More information about meetings, events, office hours, and volunteer opportunities may be found at douglasdems.org.
