Genoa, Nev. — A red flag warning for critical fire danger is in effect 2-10 p.m. due to gusty winds and low humidity. There’s also a lake wind advisory in effect for Tahoe. The winds are forecast to pick up out of the west 15-20 mph, gusting to 30 mph, with the high hitting 98 degrees today.


It didn’t take the whole five minutes for Genoans to decide Candy Dance will return for Sept. 25-26. New Town Manager Matt Bruback is in the saddle, with the town saying farewell to JT Chevallier, who has made the transition from manager to resident.


Candymakers will have a brand-new kitchen to work in when they start making the ton or so of confections that gives the annual event its name. As the weeks pass we’ll have more information on what Candy Dance will look like.


There’ll be more than job opportunities at a teen and young adult job fair 1-4 p.m. today at the Douglas County Community and Senior Center. Free ice cream, raffles and giveaways featuring a mountainbike, laptops and gift cards will also be on tap.

Nevada begins a big push to increase vaccination rates today with the initial announcement of the first Vax Nevada Days winner. Great Basin Brewery is offering a free pint of beer or root beer to anyone who takes the shot 3:30-7:30 p.m. today.


Douglas is running about one new case of the coronavirus a day as of Tuesday, according to the Nevada Health Response web page. As of the last update, 49.96 percent of Douglas residents have been vaccinated.


Carson City Health and Human Services is conducting a vaccination clinic 3-4 p.m. today at the Douglas County Senior Center. I wager you might still be able to get an appointment at gethealthycarsoncity.org or maybe even walk in.
