Genoa, Nev. — Restoration of power to 720 homes and businesses on Kingsbury Grade is estimated for 6:45 a.m., according to nvenergy.com. Power company workers spent a long chilly night working to replace a pole knocked over in a vehicle collision on Tramway.

The live stream at nvroads.com isn’t working, but you can still click on a camera to get an image of the road, but I don’t know the refresh rate. Chain controls remain in effect everywhere they were on Thursday, with the addition of Highway 395 through the Pine Nuts. There’s also a wind advisory on Interstate 580 through Washoe County.

A jack-knifed truck closed the road between Hawthorne and Mono Lake 11:30 p.m. Thursday. It’s one of four incidents listed in the Nevada outback on the NHP site, including three on Highway 6. Be careful on the roads this morning, but especially careful out in the wilderness.

Local, state and federal offices are closed today because Christmas is Saturday. The R-C office is closed today and Monday. I’ll be out and about over the weekend and updating the web site.

Horse Meadow located at 8,592 feet between Jobs and Freel peaks received 15 inches of snow over 24 hours with 49 inches on the ground, according to the U.S. Conservation Service snow telemetry. My gauge north of Genoa had slightly more than 2 inches of precipitation over 24 hours by the time I got it in and melted on Thursday night.

It will be blustery this Christmas Eve as the next blast arrives with snow levels down to the Valley floor by early Christmas morning. Expect a rocky ride along the Highway 395-88 corridor with gusts hitting 40 mph this afternoon.

At 39 degrees in Gardnerville before dawn this morning, we’re already within a few degrees of today’s forecast high of 42. We may see a little bit of sun during the day.
