Flames burn in the Mountain Fire burning near Walker south of Gardnerville.
A wildfire burning east of Highway 395 near Walker was estimated at around 5,000 acres, with reports that multiple structures have been lost as it spread in Tuesday's high winds.
The Douglas County Fairgrounds has been opened for large animal evacuations from the fire. Members of Douglas County Search & Rescue and sheriff's deputies are staging to aid in evacuations from far eastern Douglas County.
An East Fork battalion chief on scene reported that the fire is headed toward Eastside Lane in far southeastern Douglas County.
An evacuation order has been issued for Walker and Coleville by the Mono County Sheriff's Office. Highway 395 is closed through the towns south of Gardnerville.
The Sierra Front Interagency Dispatch reported the fire started with a downed powerline.
The fire was first reported around noon, as dispatchers took 911 calls on several rekindled controlled burns across Carson Valley.
East Fork firefighters responded to fires along Foothill Road, near Centerville, in Indian Hills and even in Gardnerville.
Firefighters quickly got the upper hand on the fires reported around lunchtime.
Minden-Tahoe Airport recorded a 54 mph wind gust at 9:35 a.m.
Gusty winds of around 40 mph continued with sustained winds of around 30 mph.
