Coronavirus threat to keep fans from UNLV, UNR spring sports

The athletic departments at UNLV and the University of Nevada, Reno have announced that fans won’t be allowed to attend spring sporting events at the two schools for the rest of the season over concerns about the coronavirus

In a joint statement Wednesday, the two universities say only “game-essential staff” plus family, coaches and accredited media will be allowed to be in attendance for spring sports events over concerns about the coronavirus.

UNR’s spring football game is cancelled along with all volleyball and soccer camps.

All scheduled Wolf Pack baseball and softball games as well tennis matches will be conducted only with essential staff, family members of student-athletes and coaches, and accredited media allowed in attendance.

UNR games will still be broadcast with scheduled radio and Mountain West Network coverage.

The status of UNLV’s spring football game is uncertain, however.

The Rebels aren’t expected to play that game until late April, so that gives the school some time to make a determination.

UNLV’s other affected sports are baseball, softball, women’s track, men’s and women’s swimming and diving, men’s and women’s golf and men’s and women’s tennis.
