After engaging the mercy rule to win the first game of the series, Fallon’s baseball team was in a fight with its cross-valley rival over the weekend.

The Greenwave swept Fernley after winning 11-1 on Friday to open the series before clawing for doubleheader wins of 9-7 and 12-11 on Saturday at the Edward Arciniega Athletic Complex.

Fallon improved to 5-0 in the 3A Northern League and is tied for first place. The Wave welcomes Dayton this weekend for a three-game series, beginning at 2 p.m. on Friday. Saturday’s doubleheader begins at 10 a.m.

On the other side of the complex, Fallon’s softball team saw a different result.

After upsetting Fernley in last year’s regional tournament, Fallon struggled in losing both games of its series with the Vaqueros. The Lady Wave, which missed last weekend’s opening tournament because of weather, lost 10-1 on Friday and 15-2 on Saturday: its first two games of the season.

Fallon hosts Dayton at 2 p.m. on Friday and at noon on Saturday.
