Faith & Insight: God’s Dreams

I recently viewed a video that brought tears to my eyes. A precious little girl was presented with her first Bible from her loving grandmother. Joy overwhelmed the little girl. Her tears of joy gave birth to mine.

I thought about the countless children who might not be so loved and might not have a copy of the Bible available in their native tongue. I began to wonder about the kind of world in which they would live out their lives.

Every generation hopes to leave the next generation with a better world. In many ways, it succeeds. In some ways, it fails. Still, we can dream, can’t we?

Every great movement began with a dream. Do you ever wonder about God’s dreams? When God’s will is “done on earth as it is in heaven,” His dreams come true.

Thomas Curtis Clark, who penned “God’s Dreams,” hoped that we would catch the heavenly vision, too.

Here’s the poem in its entirety:

“God’s Dreams”

Dreams are they — but they are God’s dreams!

Shall we decry them and scorn them?

That men shall love one another,

That white shall call black man brother,

That greed shall pass from the market-place,

That lust shall yield to love for the race,

That man shall meet with God face to face-

Dreams are they all,

But shall we despise them-

God’s dreams!

Dreams are they — to become man’s dreams!

Can we say nay as they claim us?

That men shall cease from their hating,

That war shall soon be abating,

That the glory of kings and lords shall pale,

That the pride of dominion and power shall fail,

That the love of humanity shall prevail-

Dreams are they all,

But shall we despise them-

God’s dreams!
