Community Sports: Golf clubs accepting members

The ninth annual Carson City Senior Invitational Golf Tournament was held Jan. 19 and 20 in Primm, Nev.

Roger Maxwell and Brent Johnson won on Saturday and the second place team was Mike and Scott Logue. On Sunday, Nick Paul and Robey Willis came in first and Freeman Johnson and Wendell Hisle tied Dennis Justin and Kurt Cleek for second place.

The long drive contest was won Saturday by Logue. On Sunday, Greg “Digger” Nixon possibly set a tournament record, winning with a drive of well over 300 yards. Meanwhile, Dennis Small who turns 90 years old this month, won the closest to the pin, being one of the few to hit the green on the hardest par-3 on the course.

Many of the participants wore shorts to take advantage of the nice weather.
