SILVER DOLLARS AND WOODEN NICKELS: Word up to CHS students

Silver Dollars and Wooden Nickels is a weekly feature in the Appeal’s Opinion pages in which the Appeal gives Silver Dollars to those who deserve recognition and occasionally a Wooden Nickel to those who deserve criticism.

SILVER DOLLAR: To Kiwanis Club of Carson City for hosting its annual Pasta Feed dinner benefiting Meals on Wheels Carson City last weekend, and for its decades-long devotion to Carson City seniors.

SILVER DOLLAR: To Nicolas Jacques, music teacher at Carson Middle School, who was honored as the Carson City School District’s Educator of the Year, James “Jim” Pike, special needs school bus driver for transportation, who was recognized as the Education Support Professional (ESP) Employee of the Year for the district, Vicki Thomas, LPN, school nurse at Empire Elementary School, who was honored as Health Professional of the Year, and Tasha Fuson, principal at Carson High School, who was named Administrator of the Year. Also to all the educators who were honored.

SILVER DOLLAR: To Carson High students Sophie Peterson, Mary Milburn, Kate Torres, Rosalind Macy, Nathan Wetzel and Kieran Dazzo for advancing to the National Speech and Debate Association Championships to be held June 17-22 in Dallas.

SILVER DOLLAR: This past week has been National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week. We salute all the dispatchers who keep us safe.
