Ex-Douglas High star Shawn Estes named Bobby Dolan dinner speaker

Former San Francisco Giants pitcher and Douglas High School legend Shawn Estes will be the featured speaker at the 35th annual Bobby Dolan Baseball Dinner. The event will take place Thursday, Jan. 17 at the Reno Ballroom.

RENO — Former San Francisco Giants pitcher and Douglas High School legend Shawn Estes will be the featured speaker at the 35th annual Bobby Dolan Baseball Dinner. The event will take place Jan. 17 at the Reno Ballroom.

Tickets for the dinner will be sold for $200 per person. VIP tickets will be available for $300, and include an exclusive meet-and-greet and reception with Estes. Tables for 10 are also available for purchase.

A Northern Nevada native, Estes was named the Nevada State Baseball Player of the Year in 1991. He was selected by the Seattle Mariners in the 1991 MLB draft with the 11th overall pick.

Estes had his best season in the majors in 1997, going 19-5 with a 3.18 ERA for the Giants and was selected to the National League All-Star team. In 2000, he became the first Giants pitcher since 1949 to hit a grand slam, and recorded four home runs in his career.

With his playing career wrapped up, Estes now co-hosts the Giants pre- and postgame shows on NBC Sports Bay Area and has done color commentary for the Reno Aces minor league team. In 2010, Estes was honored with a plaque on the Giants Wall of Fame.
