Carson High girls basketball team rolls in season opener

The Carson High girls basketball team got off to an impressive start to the season with a 73-49 win over Mira Loma in Sacramento on Saturday.

Carson gradually pulled away in the game, outscoring Mira Loma 18-9 in the second quarter to take a 30-20 halftime lead and 20-14 in the third quarter to take a 50-34 advantage.

“The girls worked hard the whole game and put a lot of pressure on them defensively,” Carson coach Doug Whisler said. “It was a good tuneup game for us.”

Lily Bouza led Carson with 19 points while Abby Golik scored 15 points, Trinity Beard had 10 points and Naycy Alvarez added nine points for the Senators.

Abby Pradere is expected to be an all-around sparkplug for Carson all season and she was just that on Saturday with 12 rebounds, seven assists and five steals. Beard had a double double with 12 rebounds and Annika Wick added 10 rebounds for the Senators.

Bouza also had four assists and five steals and Tezia Boice added five steals for Carson. The Senators co-host a mini-tournament with Douglas this weekend.
