Carson High’s state-meet competitors — Kyle Rudy (138), Alex Wells (152), David Remer (170) and Jesse Case (182) — head to Las Vegas on Thursday for Friday’s meet at the Orleans Arena.

Action gets underway at 9:30 a.m. with out-bracket matches. Wells is the only one of the Carson quartet with a pigtail match.

Rudy takes on Green Valley sophomore Jeremy Hoffman, who went 8-0. Wells meets Liberty’s Mike Lancelot. The winner of that match would face Kaden Renshaw of Durango, who went 10-0. Remer, the 170-pound regional winner, faces an out-bracket winner. Case, runner-up to Douglas’ Blake Murray, faces Nate Kendricks in his opening match.

“Practices have gone really well,” Carson coach Nick Redwine said. “We’ve had a good week of practice. We had a real quick workout today (Wednesday) and then we’ll watch some film. We went into Huddl and I had the kids watch their regional matches.

“I worry more about ourselves and what we’re doing. I think if they wrestle to their potential we’re going to have a lot of success.”

The biggest question mark surrounding Carson is the health of Rudy, who finished second at last week’s regional meet. The football and wrestling standout has been bothered by a shoulder injury suffered at the Placer Duals.

“He is going to go,” Redwine said. “He went to see an orthopedist. This is something Kyle has dealt with for a few years. He can’t do much more damage to it. That was my biggest concern going into state.”

Murray is Douglas’ only entry. He’s one of the favorites at 182.
