SILVER DOLLARS AND WOODEN NICKELS: Grand time for youth at Carson City Fair


Silver Dollars and Wooden Nickels is a weekly feature in the Appeal’s Opinion pages in which the Appeal gives Silver Dollars to those who deserve recognition and occasionally a Wooden Nickel to those who deserve criticism.

SILVER DOLLAR: Congratulations to the following youth who showed the Grand Champion livestock at the Carson City Fair: Jason Lewis, Grand Champion hog; Lillie McKinney, Grand Champion lamb and Grand Champion goat; and Lander Smith, Grand Champion steer.

SILVER DOLLAR: To Colleen Dulin who has been chosen as the Carson City District, Bureau of Land Management District Manager after serving as the acting director since January.

SILVER DOLLAR: To the 3rd & Curry Street Farmers Market as one of 10 farmers markets across the United States picked by Farmers Market Coalition in partnership with the USDA to be featured as market that has a high degree of community engagement, innovative thinking, strong leadership and clear community impacts.

SILVER DOLLAR: To Carson City Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Jim Primka for his promotion to lieutenant.

SILVER DOLLAR: And also to the Carson City Sheriff’s Office, many other public agencies, and the entire community for making National Night Out again a huge success. Because of the community’s support Carson City’s National Night Out is recognized as one of the best in the nation.
