The ride takes participants across the country over 4,200 miles and is expected to take 10 weeks.

Next week a group of cyclists will be passing through Fallon on a cross-country bike ride from New York City to San Francisco.

The unique thing about this ride, though, is that all but one of the riders lives with type 1 diabetes. The 20 riders are estimating the ride will take 10 weeks and cross 4,248 miles; they enter Nevada next week and expect to stop in Fallon Thursday.

“The program was built and designed to test personal limits and challenge bicyclists not only as athletes, but also as people living with the chronic condition that is Type 1,” stated a press release from Beyond Type 1, the organization responsible for the ride.

Of the 20 riders, 19 live with diabetes with the final member working as a nurse. They hail from the United States, United Kingdom, Australia, Canada and New Zealand.

Along with Fallon, the riders will be making stops in Baker, Ely, Eureka, Austin and Sparks. Once they enter California, they will stop in South Lake Tahoe, Somerset, Davis, Napa, San Rafael, Crissy Field Beach and end in San Francisco.

More information about the ride can be found at bikebeyond.org.
