More than 50 dancers will bring to life one of balletâs most famous pieces, reimagined for stages in Carson City, Lake Tahoe and Reno.
Sierra Nevada Balletâs production of âSleeping Beauty: A Fairyâs Taleâ opened at the Lake Tahoe Shakespeare Festival and will move to other regional venues.
Itâs coming to the capital city at 7:30 p.m. Aug. 11 at the Carson City Community Center, and to Reno at 7:30 p.m. Aug. 12 at the Nightingale Concert Hall at the University of Nevada, Reno.
Set to the music of Tchaikovsky, the story has been reimagined for contemporary audiences by Rosine Bena, Sierra Nevada Balletâs director and choreographer.
The romantic tale centers on themes of true love as a universal quest that defies time and space.
The story follows its heroine, who patiently waits to find true love. The storyâs hero must conquer his fears by encountering Malefique, the sinister fairy who challenges his character.
The full-length production features Kara Zimmerman, of Joffrey Ballet, and Dylan Santos, of Dance Theater of Harlem, with professional dancers and apprentices from the Sierra Nevada Ballet and dance students from schools in the local community.
