Elizabeth “Nell” Walkos Fozard

Elizabeth “Nell” Fozard was born in “the Patch”, a small mining community in Fayette County, Pennsylvania to Edward and Elizabeth Walkos.


Nell graduated from Saint John’s School of Nursing in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania and subsequently worked as a nurse in the Emergency Room and in Critical Care. She also worked as a psych nurse at the Woodville State Mental Hospital in Pennsylvania.


She was married to Ron Fozard. Nell and Ron moved to Nevada in 1980, after the company Ron was working for went out of business. Nell found employment as a R.N. with the Nevada Industrial Insurance Commission, later to become the State Industrial Insurance System. In 1995, she went to work for St. Mary’s Hospital as a worker’s compensation nurse and in 2001 she began work at Physician Managed Care in Carson City, doing case management of worker’s compensation claims.


Nell was an active member of the Nevada Women’s History Project, a supporter of the Lymphedema Foundation and an advocate for the Nevada Humane Society. She traveled throughout the world.


Nell was predeceased by her husband Ron in 1990 and brothers Edward and Allan.


She is survived by her brothers, Bill Walkos of La Plata, MD, Jerry Walkos of Liberty, NC; sister Pam Malloy of Lampasas, TX; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.


There will be no services.
