Moira Catherine Coots





Moira Coots passed away peacefully on October 1, 2016 at the age of 86.


Moira was born in Belfast, Northern Ireland to Edward Fitzpatrick and Margaret McIlvenny. Moira fulfilled her life long dream to come to America in 1954, where she had a fascinating life rubbing elbows with Hollywood elite. She also had an amazing career in the Hotel industry at the Beverly Hillcrest, where she worked her way up from a PBX operator to the Hotel Manager.


Moira later moved to Carson City to be closer to her son, Sean Coots, who she loved dearly. In 1985, Woody Loftin brought Moira to Carson City to serve as the Hotel Manager at the Ormsby House. Moira worked tirelessly at the Ormsby House for many years where she earned the love and respect of many employees, many of whom became her surrogate family.


After 40 years in hospitality, Moira retired but only for a shot time and later worked at the DMV and the Secretary of State, finally at 82 years young, she retired.


Moira always had a tough, no nonsense exterior, but underneath it all was a heart of gold and a loving soul.


Moira was prededed in death by her beloved brother Jim Fitzpatrick.


Moira is survived by her son, Sean Coots; grandson Devon; great-grandchildren, Peyton and Paige Coots; and nephews, Edward and Paul (Kristi) Fitzgerald.


Moira was a mentor to many and touched many lives over the years. She loved her family, work, and her dogs. She will be missed dearly.


A Mass will be held at St Teresa of Avila Catholic Church, 3000 N. Lompa Lane, Carson City on Saturday, May 6, 2017 at 11:00 a.m.


In lieu of flowers, any donation to the Nevada Humane Society would be appreciated in the memory of Moira Coots.
