RENO — Bishop Manogue Catholic High School graduate, Alec West-Guillen, has signed to play baseball at Purdue University as part of the 2018 class.

West-Guillen is currently attending the College of Southern Idaho in Twin Falls, where he will play and graduate in 2017 with an associate degree in business. He’s maintaining a 4.0 GPA, is on the President’s List and member of Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society. Last season, he was named a 2016 NJCAA Top Incoming Freshman and finished with 71 strikeouts in 59 innings pitched and received Region 18 Honorable Mention honors.

“Going to such a prestigious school means a lot of open doors for possibilities, both academically and athletically,” West-Guillen said. “I’d never thought of going to such a prominent and academically rigorous school. Once I got there and took it all in, it made the decision easy.”

At Purdue, West-Guillen said he will pursue his Bachelors of Science in Strategy and Organizational Management from the Krannert School of Management.

“I’m hoping to play professionally after college,” he said. “I want to stay in the realm of dealing with professional athletes, in the general management of a team someday.”

While at Manogue, the left-handed pitcher earned second team all-conference in 2013 as an outfielder, first team all-conference in 2014 as a pitcher, and first team all-conference in 2015 as a pitcher and outfielder. He attended both the junior and senior all-star games and ended his high school career with a .447 batting average and a .517 on base percentage. A 2015 graduate, he had 74 strikeouts and had a .449 batting average and received both All Region First Team as a pitcher and All-State first team during his senior year.

“The Bishop Manogue baseball program is proud of Alec and his accomplishments,” Manogue coach Charles Oppio said.

West-Guillen is the son of Aaron West, CEO of Nevada Builders Alliance, based in Carson City,
