Virginia (City) Theater fire: According to Carson Fire Chief George Meyers, one of the worst fires occurred at the Virginia City Theater. On their way to the fire were Carson City firefighters: Chief Meyers, Stanley Peyton, Abie Riehl, Lester Groth, George Parker and George Gibson. The historic Odd Fellows building housed the theater on the main floor. Through the efforts of the Carson City, Virginia City and Dayton fire fighters, the theater was spared excessive damage. Some film was saved for the expensive projection equipment but theater seats, curtains and booths were destroyed.
