Carson softball beats Wooster; golfers 7th after first day of regionals

Carson rally beats Wooster

RENO — Carson overcame a 3-2 deficit with five runs in the top of the seventh to beat Wooster, 7-3, Monday afternoon in a Division I make-up game.

Carson improved to 9-20 on the year heading into today’s 3 p.m. home doubleheader against Douglas.

Winning pitcher Lauren Lemburg led off the winning rally with a bunt single, moved to second on a passed ball and to third on Bailey Allen’s single. After Allen took second on indifference, Camiell Simpson followed with a two-run double. Kassidy Cooley finished with a single to send Simpson to third. Gabbi Winder was safe when her sacrifice bunt was misplayed, allowing Simpson to score to make it 5-3.

A single by Faith Bigelow and a run-scoring fielder’s choice completed the scoring.

Cooley went 3-for-4, while Allen, Simpson, Terryn Earle and Winder all had two hits apiece.

The sixth league win doubles what CHS did last season.

‘Lauren (Lemburg) pitched well; the third or fourth game in a row,” CHS coach Shane Quilling. “We gave up a couple of runs early, but found a way to win it in the seventh.”
