Eugene “Geno” Jack

Eugene was called home by our Grandfathers on Saturday April 2, 2016 with his daughter, granddaughter, son-in,law, and ex-wife by his side at Banner Churchill Hospital in Fallon, Nevada. Eugene, born in Schurz Nevada on December 13, 1949 was a lifelong member of The Fallon Paiute-Shoshone Tribe, loving father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and mentor to many. After graduating from CCHS class of 1966, then attending Chilocco Indian School, he pursued a successful career as a wildland firefighter based out of Truckee, California. He worked on many crews in many positions, eventually becoming a division supervisor. After retiring from firefighting he attended the University of Nevada, Reno where he graduated with a degree in photojournalism. His passion for the power and beauty of nature led him to capture his experiences as a firefighter in photographs, work which was featured in The Nevada Appeal, Time Magazine, The New York Times, and many more earning him several photojournalism awards along the way. He later became a professor of photojournalism at UNR as well as freelancing as a photographer with his company Dancing Light Photography. Eugene served on the Fallon Paiute-Shoshone Tribal Council many times in his life. His love for nature and the outdoors was only eclipsed by the love he held for his family, which was present every day of his life. He was preceded in death by his parents Andrew Jack and Lillian Moose-Jack, Brother Gary Jack, Nephews Gerard Jim and James Standing Bear, niece Shaulina Standing Bear, and survived by daughters Sarah Jack-Dockery and Natasia Ford, son Samuel Turner-Jack, son-in-law Thomas Dockery, granddaughter Natalie Dockery, nephews Daniel Ripley and Gerard Jim Jr, sisters Andrea Ripley, and Audrey Jack of Fallon. Brother Randy Jack, sister-in-law Heidi Jack, niece Cheyenne Jack, sister Lois Jim of Schurz. Brother Michael Jack, sister-in-law Hilda James and nephew Robert Holbrooke and niece Mary Holbrooke from Reno. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday April 16th at The Gardens Funeral Home, followed by a potluck luncheon at the Stillwater tribal gym.
