Carson City residence destroyed in fire

A Carson City residence was destroyed in a fire late Monday afternoon.

Fire crews responded a little after 4 p.m. after reports of a house fire at 500 W. Long Street. No one was inside the residence at the time of the fire.

It took crews nearly 45 minutes to put out the fire, which had engulfed the entire house. Officials believe that the fire started near the back of the house, possibly on the back porch. The fire was difficult for crews, because of the structure of the house, there was space between the dry wall and brick and because of that, crews couldn’t detect all of the fire with their thermal cameras. They also had to utilize a top side ventilation technique over the attic to help combat the fire. A top side ventilation is when crews cut a hole in the roof and spray the water from below the fire to push the heat up and out of the house.

Fire Chief Bob Schreihans said that the cause of the fire is still being investigated and they are trying to notify the homeowner.
