The launch of a Nevada certified site program by Northern Nevada Development Authority to speed site selection and approval for business and industry was announced Wednesday.
It’s designed to provide critical decision making information to business owners and those selecting sites to avoid costly delays in permits and approvals that are needed to proceed, according to Rob Hooper, executive director of the Carson City-based authority (NNDA).
“The commercial real estate market in the Sierra Region has changed,” Hooper said. “Industrial vacancy rates are down and, in many cases, current buildings are not meeting the market’s needs. Building a new facility to meet the specialized needs of today’s market is ideal but can take too long to get through the due diligence and approval processes.”
He said certified site program helps solve the problem, aiding companies in reaching their goals by handling initial approval and site prep work.
“The program also helps land owners by getting their property in front of site selectors and business owners looking to purchase land,” Hooper said.
A Nevada Certified Site Review Committee has been established by NNDA and property owners can submit an application with supporting documentation to the authority. The site review committee, actually a subcommittee of the authority’s Construction and Design Committee, will help speed the process to develop pre-certified land for businesses such as manufacturers.
