SILVER DOLLARS AND WOODEN NICKELS: Another Heller from Carson City who deserves our vote

The Nevada Appeal’s Silver Dollars & Wooden Nickels feature recognizes achievements from the capital region and, when warranted, points out other acts that missed the mark.

SILVER DOLLAR: Harris Heller of Carson City, who is a son of U.S. Sen. Dean Heller, is making a name for himself as a musician. Heller and his wife, Kenzie Nimmo, made their first national television appearance on Wednesday on ABC’s daily morning show, “The View.” Heller and Nimmo performed an original song they wrote on the show. Nimmo and Heller have been making a name for themselves on social media and they performed as part of “The Vine on the View” feature in which the show features performers who are popular on social media.

SILVER DOLLAR: To the Carson High boys basketball team who advanced to the Northern Division I Regional Finals. CHS lost 61-46 to Galena in the finals, but it still was a successful season for the Senators.

SILVER DOLLAR: To local youth Doug Hostler and Riley Mello, who advanced to the national contest in their respective events. Hostler won the Elks Hoop Shot Regional 12-13 boys title to advance to nationals in Springfield, Mass., and Mello won the 10-11 girls Hoop Shoot Regional title in Las Vegas.

SILVER DOLLAR: To Minden photographer Jeff Mulvihill Jr., who won the Antique and Amusement Photographers International Service Award.

WOODEN NICKEL: We’re not prudes, but it’s a sign the apocalypse is upon us when a show called “Sex Box” makes its debut. WE tv receives a Wooden Nickel after we ran across a commercial promoting this show, which debuted on Friday. “Sex Box,” not to be confused with Sex in the Box or Jack in the Box, is about, you guessed it, people who have sex in a box. They then evidently receive some kind of therapy after having sex — in a box.
