Gerald Stian Minor

1941 - 2015



Gerald Stian Minor of Fallon, Nev., passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on May 31. He was born in August of1941 in Coquille, Oregon. He met Anita Louise Carr in Hawthorne, Nev., while stationed there as a Marine and they married in April 1962. Jerry’s service in the Marines included a tour in Okinawa, Japan, and Vietnam. Jerry and Nita had three children (Jerry, Doug, and Ginger) while he worked at the Hawthorne Naval Ammunition Depot. Jerry would transfer to the Tooele Army Depot in Utah, where he retired with 41 years 11 months of civil service in 2001. Jerry enjoyed being outdoors whether working with their animals or gathering wood to provide heat for the family home. He also loved to work with his hands, crafting wood and metal into items to use around the house, sheds, or corals. While in Hawthorne, Jerry was active in the Mineral County Sheriff’s Posse and Mineral County Search & Rescue, which also provided opportunities for service and being outdoors.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Lucille Clair Danielson and John E. Smith, and daughter Ginger Louise Minor. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Nita Minor, and sons Jerry E. (Jill) and C. Douglas (Paula), five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his loving sister, Shirley Rhodes, Grants Pass, Oregon, and brother Jim (Susie) of The Dalles, Oregon. Celebration of his life will be at Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, in Hawthorne, on Saturday June 6th, at 3:30 p.m. Donations may be made in his memory to American Cancer Society.
