Mary Ann “Gloria” Bennett





Our dear Queen MAB, “Gloria” or as she was legally known: Mary Ann Bennett, passed away gently into the morning of September 17, 2014. She was a grand and amazing woman, Mother, Grandmother, Sister, Aunt, Cousin, Friend and Inspiration to many. Born in 1927 in Winston, Salem she decided at a young age to devote her self to nursing. She was twice loved in marriages to Russ Lamond and Randolph Hollingsworth Bennett. After she left nursing and adopted two children, she attended the University of Platteville, Wisconsin, worked in mining, and then began working for the State of Nevada, where she retired in 1992. She volunteered with organizations such as the Rancho’s Volunteer Fire Department, local theatre companies, shared great kindnesses including her beautiful knitted cream blankets, stayed involved in local politics as a concerned citizen and was an exceptional trainer and educator in First Aid. She penned her autobiography for family and friends through a course at WNC that has given many people great joy. She passed away with her family at her side and in her heart, experiencing the exceptional care of St. Mary’s Hospice. She is survived by her two daughters Ann Green of Elkhart Indiana and Mary Bennett of Reno, Nevada. Also by her Grandchildren: Baylee Biber, Andrew Gitthens, Sidney Biber, Alexander Biber, Jennifer Larson, Jeffrey Larson, Anderson Green and Great Grandchildren Kyla, Zadee Mae and Matteo Gitthens and Kaydence Langstaff. In addition to her full siblings who passed before her: John Thomas McArthur, Jr (Tommy) and Sarah Lyda (Sally), she has 4 half-siblings: James Franklin McArthur Helen June Webb Caroline Susan Lee and Robert Hall McArthur that reside on the east coast. There will be a celebration of her life held on Sunday, November 2, 2014 from 11 am ñ 2 pm at her residence on Spooner Drive in Carson City.
