Chinese Chapel of the Good Shepherd. The ladies of the Presbyterian Church cooperating with Ah For, the pastor of the Church of the Good Shepherd, held a sociable. Benches were arranged around the sides of the room and filled with ladies. In the middle of the church was a melodeon played by Miss Ida Roselle. She was supported on either hand by Miss Mary Noteware and Miss Mettle Curry. An abundant supper of cold meats, bread and butter, cakes, and pies was spread for the entertainment of guests ...

Wayside notes. There will not be any changes at the mint in the ladies department, where of course there are no politics.

Entertainment. The Bioscope Company gave an interesting program at the Opera House. The moving pictures included features of the Virginia City and Reno fire departments. The football game between the Olympics and the Nevada boys was a fine piece. Matinee prices — 10 and 25 cents.

Carson City High School students are the official salesmen of Series E war bonds and will make a house-to-house, person-to-person canvass of the entire city. The quota of $150,000 for Ormsby County in series E Bonds will go toward the purchase of three pursuit planes which will have a plaque that reads, “Donated by students of Carson City High School.”

A tree with the tag stating “Sold to First Lady” arrived at the Governor’s Mansion as the official Christmas tree. She has invited elementary students to make decorations for the tree and hopes the tradition will carry on after her husband Kenny Guinn leaves the governor’s office.

Sue Ballew is the daughter of Bill Dolan, who wrote this column for the Nevada Appeal from 1947 until his death in 2006.
