Adams wins state cross country title

Lindsay Adams ended her career just as she began it: As a state champion.

It took her three years to return to the top, but the Douglas High senior won the NIAA Division I State Girls Cross Country title on Saturday at Sunset Park in Las Vegas. Adams finished the 3.1-mile course in 18 minutes, 43.3 seconds to become the first Douglas runner to win two state titles. Adams also won the state title in 2011 as a freshman.

Carson High’s Eveline Delgado and Ian Van Rensselaer also had outstanding efforts as did the Douglas girls, which finished third overall.

Delgado finished eighth in the girls race in 19:33.0. “She ran a good race,” Carson coach Pete Sinnott said.

Van Rensselaer saved his best for last, finishing 14th in 16:53.6. “He passed most of all the runners who have been beating him,” Sinnott said.

Sinnott noted Van Rensselaer and Delgado, who earned all-state second team honors with her eighth place finish, are returning while most of the top finishers were seniors. “This was the first race of next year for both of them,” Sinnott said.

The Douglas girls finished third with 83 points behind Palo Verde (62) and champion Centennial (45). Douglas had three runners in the top 15 as Rebecca Corbett took 12th ini 20:04.1 and Madison Cote was 14th in 20:12.2

Austin Crozall was the top finisher for the Douglas boys, taking 16th in 17;00.9. McQueen dominated the boys meet with 27 points to win the title while Douglas took seventh (160).

Centennial’s Dajour Braxton won the boys race in 15:34.2
