Santor named March Veteran of the Month

Ken Santor was recognized as the March Nevada Veteran of the Month during the Veterans Legislative Symposium held on March 8 in Reno. He was presented the award by Veterans Services Commission Chairman Bill Bauman.

“Ken was a leader during his entire military career, and he’s continued to be a leader as a veteran by continuing to serve locally and nationally through a variety of organizations and efforts to help other veterans,” said Bauman.

Santor has a long history of veteran service dating back to 1988 when he joined the Marine Corps League in Carson City. Since then he has served in many roles with various organizations, including Department of Nevada Commandants and Battle Born Detachment in Reno. He has helped other organizations start chapters in and outside of the United States. Santor advocated for increased services for active troops and their families and was involved in efforts to get the U.S. Postal Service to issue the Purple Heart Stamp as a “Forever Stamp.”

The Veteran of the Month program is managed by the Nevada Department of Veterans Services under the direction of Director Katherine Miller. Board members of the Veterans Services Commission review nominations and choose a recipient during quarterly meetings for the following three month period.
