Virginia City’s Fourth of July celebration offers one of the region’s longest fireworks displays, echoing off Storey County’s Mount Davidson for nearly 30 minutes.
The celebration also includes a Fourth of July parade at noon.
It starts from the south at the Fourth Ward School and is scheduled to last about an hour and a half.
Attendees can experience Virginia City from the outlook of an old-west cowboy in Shootout on the Hill, an event that takes place from 1 to 5 p.m. at the Fourth Ward School. Tickets cost $35 per person and include guns, ammunition and safety instruction. Tickets are available in front of the Bucket of Blood or Ponderosa saloons on C Street.
The Comstock Cowboy’s Second Amendment concert returns for the 15th year at 6 and 7:45 p.m. It’s held outdoors in the parking lot of the Delta Saloon, next door to the Bucket of Blood Saloon.
A raffle offering prizes, including a rifle and shotgun, will be at 7 p.m. Tickets are available starting at 9 a.m. at the booth in the center of town near the Virginia City Visitors Center.
The celebration wraps up with fireworks at Miner’s Park, located at Carson and F streets. Various food and beverage vendors are lined up, but families are invited to bring blankets and picnics; alcohol and glass are not permitted in the park.
