Before you decide that you are too busy to vote today, think about the following: In November 2012, a Carson City supervisor’s race was decided by 25 votes. Just 25 votes.
Last week, in El Dorado County, Calif., there was a county supervisor race where candidates two, three and four were separated by just 14 votes.
If you think your vote doesn’t count, think again.
While turnout in Carson City — above 20 percent — was higher than a majority of the state, it is a far cry from the 55 percent who voted early in the November 2012 election.
Turnout that year was 90 percent in Carson City, if we are lucky the capital city will get to 50 percent for today’s election.
There are three local races today: Carson City Sheriff, Assembly District 40 and state Senate District 16. The quality of life and future direction of Carson City is decided during elections, and the best way to ensure those decisions are ones you support is to vote.
After all, that’s what democracy is all about.
The Carson City Community Center, 851 E. William St., will host Election Day voting from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. today.
