Joe Nelson and Connor Pradere have been selected to participate in the 20th annual Australia Goodwill Series in baseball.
Nelson and Pradere are currently playing varsity football at Carson, and the duo split time between JV and varsity during the baseball season.
A group of 60 players (four teams of 15) and nine coaches will depart Dec. 18 to play a series of 12 games against the best players in Australia.
The Australian players represent New South Wales, Western Australia and South Australia. The United States players will wear the uniforms of the Washington Nationals and Cincinnati Reds.
Not a bad way to spend your Christmas vacation.

You have to laugh a little bit at the San Francisco 49ers.
The team spends a boatload of money for its new stadium, but can’t figure out the grass situation.
Last week, the team put down grass for the third time since the stadium was built. Because of that last Friday’s high school doubleheader with Wilcox and Manteca, and De La Salle and Jesuit, had to be moved. The next big event at the new stadium is an international soccer match between Chile and Mexico.
What’s wrong with field turf?

My 21 is now showing high school football every Friday night. The season-ending Carson-Douglas game on Nov. 7 is already penciled in. Two other contests are possibilities.

One thing I’ve often wondered is why the Carson High football and basketball games aren’t broadcast. Seems a natural to me. When I worked in Napa, the Napa and Vintage high games were always on. It’s too bad we can’t make that happen here.

Former Dayton football star Austin Fletcher, who’s now a preferred walk-on at Nevada, was in Dayton to root his old school on to victory. Fletcher is being used at outside linebacker, and undoubtedly will redshirt this season.
“It’s pretty much what you would expect,” he said. “The game is a lot quicker.”
And, Fletcher is no longer one of the biggest guys on the field. Now, he may be one of the smallest in the front seven.

Another Dayton alum, Madison Foley, enjoyed a successful debut with the Nevada volleyball team on Friday. The freshman outside hitter had six kills and seven digs in the Pack’s three-set win over Oral Roberts at the Pepperdine Classic.
