Prep Roundup: Dutcher outstanding in Senators’ victory


Dustin Dutcher threw a complete game two-hitter as the Carson High baseball knocked off North Valleys 7-1 on Wednesday in the Spanish Springs Invitational.

Dutcher gave up one unearned run and struck out five without a walk. He threw 88 pitches, 54 of them for strikes.

Carson scored seven runs, five earned on 11 hits. Jace Zampirro went 3-for-3 with a triple. He scored three runs and drove in one to lead Carson. Chase Blueberg added three hits. Brandon Allen and TJ Thomsen both had two hits for the 8-7 Senators.

The tournament resumes on Friday.


Douglas drops two

MINDEN — Douglas dropped both ends of a doubleheader Wednesday at home, losing 4-3 to McQueen and 3-2 to Spanish Springs, in games played as part of the Spanish Springs Spring Break Tournament.

McQueen scored twice in the top of the seventh inning to break a 2-2 tie, then held on to win the game. Douglas (11-4 overall) scored once in the bottom half of the seventh and had two runners on base when the final out was recorded.

Jon Weethee pitched the distance, allowed seven hits to go with four strikeouts and two walks for McQueen. Kyle Johnson pitched all the way for Douglas, allowed six hits with nine strikeouts, no walks and one hit batsman.

In game two, Spanish Springs scored three unearned runs in the fourth inning. Douglas scored once in the bottom of the fourth when Cale Kynett, Dalton Grisell and Dillon Lopez connected for successive singles to cut the deficit to 3-1. The Tigers added one more run in the seventh when Logan Fencl doubled and scored on Michael Mejia’s two-out single. Spanish Springs reliever got a game-ending strikeout with the potential tying run on second base.

Cole Peck pitched the distance for the Tigers, allowed seven hits with seven strikeouts and one walk.
