Astronomy program for kids starts Oct. 5

Astro Kids, a free astronomy program for children, will be offered from 7 to 9:30 p.m. on the first and third Saturdays of the month during Star Parties at Jack C. Davis Observatory at Western Nevada College.

Dr. Thomas Herring and WNC students will present activities Oct. 5 and 19, and Nov. 2 and 16.

Attendees can view the stars through observatory telescopes when skies are clear.

“There will be some demonstrations and some interactive science exhibits,” Herring said.

“The idea is that as people drop in, they can see something cool, try something cool and discuss the science with me and students.”

The program is free. Prior notice for large groups of children is appreciated.

To ensure enough materials are available, send an email to Linda Fisher at lef2143@gmail.com.

The observatory is at 2699 Van Patten Drive.
