Obituary: Edward Francis Jungers

Edward Francis Jungers, known to most as Eddie and to some as “Fast Eddie,” passed away on Tuesday evening at the age of 91. He has been a resident of Johnson Lane for 23 years and enjoyed many friendships at the corner store and around the neighborhood.

Eddie was born in Attica, NY. There he learned cabinet making from his father and developed an interest in trains. In 1943, he enlisted in the army and served as a technical sergeant in the railway operating battalion, European Theatre during WWII, running trains behind the front lines.

He returned to western New York after the war, married Theresa Jacoby in 1947 and worked as a chief dispatcher for the Erie Lackwanna Railroad for 30 years. He completed his career working as a hazardous materials inspector for the Federal Railroad Administration and retired in 1987.

Eddie and his wife moved to Minden, NV in 1990 to escape Western New York winters and be near their daughter and son-in-law, Elaine and H.G. McNeill. He particularly enjoyed the milder climate and fishing opportunities. Eddie further cultivated his cabinet making skills and crafted exquisite furniture pieces such as the candle table in St. Gall Church. He was an active member of the St. Gall community, serving as a Eucharistic Minister, a 4th Degree Knight of Columbus, a volunteer, and a greeter.

A funeral mass will be held Wednesday, September 25, 2013 at 10:30am at St. Gall Church with a reception following the service. All friends and family are invited to attend.
