Warehouse outlet is a new hot spot for Carson City-area book browsers

Serious book browsers and buyers showed up in droves Friday for the grand opening and ribbon-cutting ceremony at the Friends of the Carson City Library Warehouse outlet.The 1300 square feet of space in the facility, at 2311 N. Carson St., was so chock-full of books and browsers that it was like old-home week for bibliophiles and their favorite quarry.Phyllis Patton, head of the Friends organization, had no idea how many books there were.“I haven’t even got a ‘guesstimate’ right now,” she said. It likely would have been inaccurate anyway, as browsers became buyers even before Mayor Robert Crowell cut a ribbon outside during the morning event.Carl Frisby made the first purchase, according to Jan Neubert, the volunteer who made the sale.The unit is between Denny’s and Big O Tires in the small shopping center near Carson Street and Hot Springs Road. It will be open one weekend a month, usually the third, Patton said.Members of the organization will be able to browse the used fare on hand the Thursday prior to those weekend openings, she said. Roop St., will still serve customers, Patton said. However, excess inventory will be at the new outlet from now on.On hand at the ceremony were the mayor, Supervisor Brad Bonkowski, and Stan Jones and Ronni Hanniman, representing the city’s Chamber of Commerce.
